After World War II, Antonia and her daughter, Danielle, return with their hometown, where a little plantation has been bestowed by the late mum of Antonia up on her. There, Antonia melts and combines a community that is odd although tightly knit. Those around her comprise would-be suitor Bas quirky friend Crooked Finger and, eventually for Antonia, great-granddaughter and a granddaughter who help create a powerful group of empowered women.
