At the close of World War II, a National Guard infantry company needs to install artillery observation posts in a tactical area. Lt. Costa (Jack Palance) knows that Capt. Cooney (Eddie Albert) is responsible because of their"relations" he left state side. Costa has doubts concerning Cooney's capacity hell breaks loose and when Cooney sends Costa and his men from a dangerous mission -- and refuses to re enforce them.
