Kate "Ma" Barker, molested as a child, becomes a viciously strong lady in the 1930s. She dominates her grown sons and raises them to be tough crooks. The lads include Herman, who still sleeps with Ma, Fred, an ex-con who fell for a fellow prisoner, and Lloyd, who takes whatever is available. They're a deadly, strange Depression-era bandit family.
