Marty Mackenzie is a failed theatrical actor who likes to investigate. He joins Jack Potter, a grizzled private eye. They both take a case in Beaver Ridge, a shady village where a wealthy gravel pit owner is set to be murdered. In reality, Marty's private investigation is a scam.
