A romantic comedy about two people who don't fit together is set in a depressed part of Monterey, California. Doc is a marine biologist and a former baseball star who is alone. He is also a lonely person. Suzy is a scrappy, rude drifter who can't even be a prostitute. Add Cannery Row's group of drunken sluts to the mix, and you get fireworks, but not the romantic kind.
