An American Army officer is recruited by the yet-to-be-created Israel to assist in the formation of an army. This sudden appeal to his Jewish roots disturbs him. Each of Israel's Arab neighbors has vowed to invade the country once partition is granted. Just before the war begins, he is appointed commander of the Israeli forces.
