Lewis, a young amateur theater director, is given a job with a Sydney government program for mentally ill individuals. One of the inmates wants to present Mozart's opera Cosi Fan Tutte, despite the fact that none of the patients can sing or speak Italian. A comedy of errors unfolds, but unexpectedly unites the patients and their director.
