1945, postwar Germany. An American of German descent, leopold Kessler, acts as a sleeping car conductor for the Zentropa railroad. When he matches the daughter of the railroad owner, Katharina Hartmann, and so they fall in love, his life intersects with a mysterious company compared to america army military occupation's barbarous and dark path.
