Hirosuke (Teruo Yoshida) , a medical student with almost no recollection of his past, is trapped in an asylum, despite being absolutely sane. After escaping from the loonybin, also being framed for the murder of a star girl, he spots a deceased man, Genzaburo Komoda, to whom he bears an uncanny resemblance's photo. By pretending to have been resurrected, Hirosuke supposes the dead person's identity, fooling everybody, including the widow along with mistress of Komoda. Whilst at the Komoda household, Hirosuke remembers memories which convince him to travel to a nearby island Genzaburo's daddy. Whilst on the staircase , Hirosuke perhaps not just finds Jogoro's plans to construct his own'ideal community' (by altering absolutely ordinary humans into hideous freaks), but also the horrible truth behind their own identity.
