After fifteen years' service, Henri Boulanger is made redundant. Shocked, he tries suicide, but can't go through with this, so he hires a contract killer in a bar to kill him at some unspecified time later on. But instantly he meets and falls deeply in love with Margaret, a flower-seller, that makes Henri realise that his entire life has some meaning.
