Mary Forbes, a married American, becomes engaged in an affair with an Italian man, Giovanni Doria, while on vacation in Rome. Giovanni declares his love for her as she prepares to depart Italy; he does not wish for her to leave. Together, they wander the railroad station where Mary is scheduled to board a train to Paris, where she will eventually reunite with her husband and daughter. Will she abandon her previous life in order to pursue her new passion?
