Remy Germain is a doctor as characters accusing him of having an affair and performing abortions are mailed to village leaders in a town who becomes the attention of a vicious smear campaign. The mystifying writer, who signs each correspondence as"Le Corbeau" (The Raven) soon targets the entire town, exposing everybody's dark secrets. This allegorical picture was highly controversial at the time of its release, and was banned in France.
