A young novelist, Richard Harland, meets with Ellen Berent onto a train where they fall in love and are wed. When tragedies take his handicapped young brother, then his unborn son from him, Harland gradually realises that the insane jealousy of his wife may be the reason for the tragedies in his own life. As Ellen's emotions become uncontrollable yet still another shock awaits them all.
