A police officer has been killed with a bayonet when staying in hospital. Lead by Martin Beck, the investigative team , soon find that the man had abused civilians as well as suspects but that any complaints were discounted due to his colleagues' bemused loyalty. The mind of this killer usually means that Beck must fix the case quickly before more people are hurt.
