A screenwriter's (Wuhl) old script is reviewed by a producer (Landau) and the quest for investors begins. But each money source (Aiello, DeNiro, Wallach) seems to have his own woman he wants in the film. Gradually, the screenwriter's script is changed to please these investors, until the writer no longer recognizes his original ideas.
