In this biographical picture, glamorous yet lonely celebrity Joan Crawford consumes 2 orphans, and at their unconventional family appears to be happy. But she is fired out of her contract with MGM studios and after Joan's efforts at romantic fulfillment go sour, her abusive and callous behavior towards her daughter Christina becomes even more conspicuous. Christina leaves home and carries her first acting role, just to come across her mum's presence overshadowing her.
