Yukie, the well-bred daughter of a college teacher, is surprised when her father is alleviated of his message for his political mentors during a purge of anti-militarism in pre-war Kyoto. Years go by as she is courted by two of her father's former students; one an intense leftist, the other even more modest as well as equable.
