German farce Herbie Melbourne is an unfortunate schlemiel who is caught between Satan and the deep blue sea in this movie that tells the story of a taxi driver hired to bring a "comrade" back from the Berlin Wall who is already dead when he gets there. KGB and East German Intelligence hire Herbie, a cabbie, as a sleuth to solve the murder of the man in his backseat. A few days after landing in West Germany, Herbie is hired by both West German and American intelligence agencies to become a counterspy. Herbie goes to a therapist for aid because he doesn't know how to get out of this situation. Smiling, she pulls out a small bottle from her magic bag and gives it to Herbie so he can sniff it whenever he needs to boost his self-esteem. As a result, Herbie is a taxi driver, a KGB operative, a CIA agent, and a bottle-sniffer, all at the same time.
