Pit violinist Claudin hopelessly loves rising operatic soprano Christine Dubois (as do baritone Anatole and authorities inspector Raoul) and secretly aids her career. However, Claudin loses both his job along with his signature, murders a music writer that is rascally and it has his face etched with acid. Soon, mysterious crimes irritate the Paris Opera House, blamed on a mythical"ghost".
