Henry and Nicky are small-town friends from blue-collar backgrounds who only have a few months before being drafted into WWII. Henry falls in love with Caddie Winger, a newcomer to town who he believes to be affluent. Nicky, who is naughty and irresponsible, gets himself into problems, forcing the other two to become involved, putting their friendship and connection to the test.
