A crew of Martians overhears a radio broadcast of Orson Welles'"War of the Worlds" via Earth, and, believing the Martian fleet is attacking Earth, they land their brokendown ship in a backwater MidAmerican town. They land on Halloween, as luck would have it and obtain confused for trickortreaters. Comedy ensues because the Martians take to to have taken.
