At a creative standstill, accomplished writer/director Bernard Rougerie chooses to distance himself from his wife in order to finish the script for his upcoming movie. Bernard moves into a building where the residents are attempting to overthrow their tyrannical owner. He joins their cause reluctantly at first, and after that, he starts having an affair with a young, unemployed local named Anne.
