At the beginning of the movie we learn in a number of those characters which earthworms can be called to the surface together with electricity, but it turns them to flesh-eaters that are vicious. Sure , a storm which nighttime induces the bottom to break and touch, drawing millions of man eating worms out of the ground, and to town where they start munching on the natives.
