After the end of World War II Karen, a young displaced woman from Lithuania, marries Italian fisherman Antonio to get away out of the internment camp. However, the lifetime on the island of Antonio , Stromboli, jeopardized by its volcano, is a demanding one and Karen can't get used to it.
