Cmdr. Ericson is tasked with leading a convoy of inexperienced officers and newly trained soldiers to accompany HMS Compass Rose at the outbreak of World War II. The guys must toughen up to saving U-Boat raid survivors while only occasionally being able to fight back because life on the winter seas is already unbearably difficult. Traumatic experiences on board and on land forge a passionate friendship between the skipper and his first officer.
