After her husband departed to go sheep droving in the high country in 1893, a heavily pregnant Molly Johnson and her children struggle in seclusion to survive the harsh Australian countryside. One day, she discovers a wounded Yakada, an aboriginal fugitive who is bound, on her property. He divulges details about her true identity as an odd friendship between them develops. Nate Clintoff, a new local lawman, becomes skeptical when he learns that Molly's husband is genuinely gone and dispatches his constable to look into it.
