John Cavendish, a Scottish adventurer, arrives in Tuscany in the 18th century and makes his fortune in botany and agriculture. He receives a letter from Chiara Conti (an Italian solicitor), who reveals to him that he is of the Cavendish blood line. She tells him he is Peter Cavendish's last descendent. Marcus flies to Tuscany to collect his inheritance, hoping that it will alleviate his financial and mental difficulties. With a blood curse as a surprise inheritance, Marcus thinks he's solved all his troubles at Cavendish Castle, but he's actually fighting an ancient evil that's been tormenting his family for centuries.
