Subsequent to Rhett, the parents of Ruby and her younger brother, are killed in a car accident, their parents' best friends, Terry and Erin Glass, eventually become their guardians. The youngsters hear promises of a world of opulence and California pleasure is move into the Glasses' gated house. Before very long Ruby supposes that Terry and Erin may not be the guardians.
