Emily Crane is fired after refusing to reveal names to the House Un-American Activities Committee in1951, and she finds a part-time work as an elderly lady's companion. One day, her attention is pulled to a loud quarrel in a neighboring house, especially as one of people involved is her major senate prosecutor. As she begins to investigate, she eventually enlists the assistance of FBI officer Cochran, who was initially assigned to investigate her. Just as well when things get nasty.
