In 1885, the death of a wealthy patriarch sets off a power struggle between his children. Son Ferdinando buys out his other relatives so he can take full control of the dead man's property. But Amerigo, who is Ferdinando's nephew, won't give up. When Amerigo goes to Florence and meets the prostitute Bianca, he starts to change his mind.
