Son of Lord Clancharlie, gwynplaine, features a smile carved on his face by the King, in revenge for Gwynplaine's dad's treachery. Gwynplaine is embraced by way of a show man and becomes a popular idol. He falls deeply in love. The king dies, along with his jester that is wicked tries to corrupt or kill Gwynplaine.
