Sam hates his housemates since they are filthy and don't respect his privacy or basic hygiene. He accepts to share an apartment with the owner (a sleazy frat-boy yuppie named Brian, soon to be married) and Ellen (a would-be painter seeking escape from her monotonous marriage). So far, so good, until Sam and Brian switch nights without telling Ellen, who credits all "pleasant" things to the slob Brian, while chastising Sam for his hedonistic lifestyle.
