Traveling via an European country over the edge of war, sick, intellectual Ester, her sister Anna and Anna's young son, Johan, look into a hotel that is near-empty. A basic inability to convey on the list of three seems to worsen during their stay. Anna provokes her sister by enjoying a dalliance with a neighborhood man, whilst the boy, left to himself, has a set of encounters that heighten the air of isolation.
