The Provence attracts immigrants seeking work in the quarries or agriculture in the 1920s. Many settle permanently, like Toni, an Italian who lives with Marie, a Frenchwoman. Toni becomes involved in a web of increasingly passionate relationships, despite her well-ordered life.
