In the slums of the upper westside of Manhattan, ny, a gang of Polish-American adolescents known as the reverted take on a rival gang of newly immigrated Puerto Ricans, the Sharks, to"own" the neighborhood streets. Tensions are high between the gangs however just two children, one from each gang, fall in love leading to tragedy.
