Two out of work actors -- the luckless Marwood Withnail, and his acerbic, alcoholic friend -- spend days drifting between their flat, the unemployment office and also the bar. Once they choose a holiday"by mistake" at the nation house of Withnail's flamboyantly gay uncle, Montythey strike the disagreeable aspect of the English countryside: tedium, terrifying locals and torrential rain.
