Mamie, an abused orphan, is taken in by Mrs. Caldwell and her son Alexander. Mamie names the boy "Zander" After Mrs. Caldwell dies, the boy is sent to the same institution where Mamie was mistreated. Horrified, Mamie vows to spare the boy the same horrors she received.
